Praying from Scripture

One way to start a prayer is to read and reflect on a Scripture and then pray using the words from the Scripture.

Ezekiel 34: 25-27

“I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of wild beasts so that they may live in the desert and sleep in the forests in safety. I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in the season, there will be showers of blessing.”

Reflecting on this passage we can read about a covenant of peace and safety. “In the season”, the Scripture reads, there will be “showers of blessing”.   Literally, we can think about rain showers that help crops grow that are life sustaining for us.  We can also think about all the other blessings that God bestows, showers, on us.

For the following prayer, we begin with the words of the Scripture.  Prayer is our time with God, and sometimes praying from a Scripture is a good place to start a conversation with our Lord!

Praying from Ezekeil 34: Oh Lord, thank you for the covenant of peace you give us and the promise of safety wherever we find ourselves.  In this season, may we receive your showers of blessing! And may we then be a blessing to all we meet!  …(Your personal time with the Lord)… We ask this in the mighty name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

If this season finds you in tough places, challenging situations, difficult relationships or circumstances, please know that we have a loving God who is always here for you!  The Scripture from Matthew Chapter 7 can also be a good place to start a prayer.  This Scripture is a promise from the Lord to us, whether we are in smooth or bumpy times in our lives.

Matthew 7:7-8

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Praying from Matthew 7:7-8: Lord, here we are—struggling, but we humbly ask to help us through these times, guiding us, and protecting us. Help us to recognize and know the love, mercy, and grace you have for us every day.  May we turn to you, Lord, and thank you for being in our lives and for your perfect provision. Thank you for the promise of showers of blessing in this season!  …(Your personal time with the Lord)…  All Honor and Glory to God!  We ask this in the mighty name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Happy Thanksgiving!

In Christ, Debbie
